Disclaimer:  Before I continue, I want the reader to understand that I am by no means suggesting that the born again believer is God, as in, uncreated and eternal.  I am just drawing our attention to the fact that we are His children and possess the nature and qualities God possesses.

The Hypostatic Union (Jesus as a complete man and complete God) is one of the most powerful concepts portrayed in God’s reclamation and redemptive agenda.  The Greek meaning of the word means “Personal”.  Thus, Christ Jesus is personally human and personally God.

This Union is a picture of how God wanted His children to function in creation, that is, be human and yet divine.   I call this, ‘godmankind’, the revelation concerning man’s divinity in humanity through Christ.

I must emphasize again, this is not the same as Christ Hypostatic Union because with regards to Christ, it’s a description of His uncreated eternal attributes and the manifestation of His redemptive love.

This is the greatest privilege God has made available to the world. That is, through the expression of faith in His Son Jesus, the saved can partake and experience an aspect of Christ’s Hypostatic Union.  Simply putting it, through the new birth, all who believe can become the sons of God, godmankind (John 1:12-13).

Think of godmankind as God taking residence permanently in man in the person of the Holy Spirit, and living His life through them.

What it means to become Sons of God

When a person is called a child of God, what it means is that the Holy Spirit has come to dwell in them because they believe and have faith in Jesus Christ and what He came to the earth to do (John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 3:16).

As children, we are being reminded of the principle of likes.  That is, man gives birth to man, cow to cow, sheep to sheep, fish to fish.  Consequently, God gives birth to gods and this is made possible through the new birth; that is, God is giving birth to beings in His kind and nature by the Holy Spirit through the expression of faith in Jesus Christ (Genesis 1:26-27; John 3:6) after man’s fall in the first Adam.

If we have become the sons of God then we have become divine beings (Psalm 82:6-7; John 10:34).  In this earth, the full glare of what we have become will not be apparent until this mortal flesh is put off and immortality is put on (1 Corinthians 15:53) either when we fall asleep or Christ appears.

What being divine does not mean

Many who come to Christ under the impression that when the Holy Spirit comes and dwells in them, that is, make them divine in human form, all their problems and sufferings will go away automatically by the wave of a hand will be very disappointed.

This is because being divine will not make the sufferings, agitations, and experiences of pain and disappointment go away magically.  However, what it will do is that, in Christ Jesus and through the power of the Holy Spirit, the divine nature and virtues of God would be supplied to the born again believer to overcome the situation.  Going through the process is part of maturing the nature and virtues of God in us (Hebrews 5:7-9).  Nonetheless, the benefits of walking in this divine nature outweighs the sufferings.

Benefits of Being Divine

One cannot begin to imagine the immense benefits of accepting this invitation to share in revelation of His Union. Through divinity the believer is granted the quality and ability to display to all on earth the virtues of God.  By the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we are given skills, gifts and abilities that allows us to display the essential nature and qualities of God (I Corinthians 12, 13, 14, Romans 12:7-17; Daniel 1:17; Exodus 31:2-3; 35:32-35).

These virtues, abilities and gifts are manifested when we become active partakers of the divine nature of God through The Promise (Luke 24:49) and the promises He has given us (2 Peter 1:3-4).  Remember this, the Holy Spirit is the Promise of the Father and the only gateway through Christ Jesus to partake in the divine nature of God.

We are talking about virtues, abilities and gifts such as having joy, peace, foreknowledge, wisdom, and understanding, power to heal and perform miracles, insight, love, mercy, live purely and manifest glory.  Not only that, we are talking about ability to display craftsmanship and administer justice and leadership unlike any human can by himself or herself attain.

Therefore, it is essential the born again Christian understands that inasmuch as they are human, they are also divine.  Thus, the supernatural life is their default nature.   This is one of the great lesson Christ’s Hypostatic Union teaches us.  Let us embrace this truth and begin to actively pursue it.

So, my dear born again Christian, activate The Promise (Holy Spirit), pursue the promises (prophecies concerning the purpose of your life and what you are to experience while on the earth) and see His divine nature at work in you show up for triumphing.
