The Place of Knowledge
In our first series, we looked at believing and acting on the voice of God as a sure way to live victoriously by accessing the truth in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. In this publication, we want to consider the acquisition of Knowledge as the second fundamental nature to cultivate to ensure a successful Christian walk.
Every relationship in the earth is enhanced and made better according to the level of knowledge revealed or known. Whether it is a marriage, business, processes, things, social groups, etc., knowledge about it is crucial to the growth and development of the relationship. That is why acquisition of knowledge in a matter or thing is deemed to be equivalent to power in this age of data.
God, before man, even saw the importance of knowledge, and that is why He has great appreciation for people who have knowledge, not any kind of knowledge though, but the right knowledge in relation to a person, thing, process or place. To know how important knowledge is to God, let’s begin from one of the most popular texts in scripture:
Hosea 4:6 NKJV
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priests for Me…
Knowledge as we are discussing is the Hebrew word da‛ath which means discernment, understanding, wisdom and the Greek word epignōsis which translates precise and correct knowledge,
It is only the true knowledge we have about Jesus Christ that will allow us to take our place in God. When we begin to imbibe and understand God’s precise and correct knowledge, we will consciously and unconsciously manifest the nature of our Father in heaven in us. Not only that, it will strengthen our relationship and devotion to Him while allowing us to live prosperously in the earth.
To receive the knowledge of God involves being filled with the Holy Spirit and being taught by Him. He is the only true person to reveal who God is to us (John 14:26; 1 Corinthians 2:10-11).
The principle is simple. God is spirit, and everything that concerns Him is spiritual. So it takes people who are born of the Spirit of God to receive the knowledge of God because the natural mind, which is under the influence of the curse in Genesis cannot receive God’s knowledge (1 Corinthians 2:14).
Remember, the principle of life is simple: Like begets like. That is, a dog births dog, a cat births cat, humans birth humans. In that same manner, God begets gods (Psalm 82:6; John 10:34).
This is further explained by Apostle John in his gospel when he said, “…He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe on His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:12-13).
Accurate and true knowledge of God allows us to take our place in the Kingdom of heaven and in the earth as children, kings and priests of God.
So in Exodus 19:5-6 (emphasis mine) we read, “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”
1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people…”
And Revelation 5:10 says, “And you have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth”
By these scriptures we establish a clear picture that God always wants His children to be Kings to dominate the earth and priests to communicate His nature of love to the lost and dying and children to give them assurance of their identity.
These blessings of life are in jeopardy when the elect of God are ignorant. This is because accurate and precise knowledge for believers will make them:
- Reign, rule and dominate the earth for God (Revelation 5:10)
- Fear the Lord and teach His awe to unbelievers (2 Kings 17:28)
- Speak truth to reveal the true nature of God to the children of the earth (1 Kings 17:24)
- Give justice to those who seek it (Deuteronomy 21:5)
- Show the way of peace (John 14:27)
- Turn unbelievers from their iniquity (Malachi 2:6)
- Live as a representatives of God on earth (2 Corinthians 5:20).
- Manifest the divine life of God (2 Peter 1:4)
This is why Apostle Paul prayed this prayer for all believers, “…that [we] may be filled with the Knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, that [we] may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (emphasis mine, Colossians 1:9-10).
It is only through the acquisition of the accurate knowledge of God, which can only be accessed and taught by the Spirit of God, that the true glory of God can be manifested in the earth through the children of God.
God has a desire to redeem and restore the earth to its Eden days; that can only be made possible when the children of God have the right and accurate knowledge about Him, His intentions, nature and works and most importantly, about themselves as children of the Most High.
